Lesson 7 – Abraham’s Visitors from Heaven

God came to Abraham with a promise of a son. Abraham’s descendent, our Lord Jesus, comes to us in Word and Sacraments, telling us that in Him all things are possible.

Opening

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit

This lesson will use the Bible, the Bible Exploration Guide and the Lesson 7 Leaflet from the Student Pack. The front cover shows how the artist sees Abraham with the visitors. Also colored pencils or crayons will be needed.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for Your constant blessings. Thank You for being with us and for reassuring us of Your care. Help us learn today about how You fulfilled Your Word to Abraham and Sarah. Help us to trust You and to hear Your words of grace and forgiveness so that we never have to be afraid because of our sinfulness. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

What are times that you might laugh? When you hear a joke, when something funny happens.

Can you think of ways in which our laughing might be sinful? In other words, are there some things we shouldn't laugh at? We shouldn't laugh at people when they get hurt, we shouldn't laugh to make fun of people, etc.

Have you ever laughed when someone tells you something that you don't think is true? Probably

In this lesson, we're going to read about some laughter in the Bible. We'll also learn that although God hates sin, He is "gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love" (Psalm 145:8).

He punished His own Son for our sins, destroying sin by Jesus' suffering and death on the cross.

God Speaks

Read the Faith Words section on the back page of the leaflet. Those words will be used in the lesson.

Leaflet pages 2 and 3 have a Jeopardy-type activity to study our Bible story. The answers are provided; you will need to think of the question for each answer.

Answer number one is "Three men, one of whom was the Lord."

Read Genesis 18:1-2.

What is the question? Who appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre [MAM rayhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=673BVWwbsL8">If God Himself Be for Me".

Luther's Morning Prayer

My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, that You kept me safe from all evil and danger last night. Save me, I pray, today as well, from every evil and sin, so that all I do and the way that I live will please you. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have. Let Your holy Angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will not gain power over me. Amen.

Closing Prayer: Dear heavenly Father, You are always quick to give blessings and to show mercy to Your children. Thank You for the blessing of faith, which You freely give to us in grace. Thank You for forgiving us when we doubt Your Word. Please remind us of Your love for us in Jesus and help us share the good news of Jesus' love with others this week. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
